The Luxembourg – Kleinbettingen – Arlon line prepared for the future

When the Swietelsky symphony sounds early in the morning and the sound of the convoy passes across the track, it means that the work of the CFL is progressing. Since our last visit on the Luxembourg – Kleinbettingen – Arlon line a year ago, the specialised machine for replacing sleepers, track and ballast has returned to prepare the rail network for tomorrow’s mobility.
For several years now, the CFL have been renewing sections of the Luxembourg – Kleinbettingen – Arlon line. During the Easter school holidays, the section between Luxembourg and Bertrange was renewed over a total length of six kilometres in order to continue to ensure the safety and comfort of the CFL’s customers and staff.
On this day in April 2025, a few sections remain to be completed, in particular around Bertrange Station, 700 metres to Hollerich Station and the connection with Luxembourg Station. The renewal of four switches at Mamer station in the direction of Luxembourg is also scheduled for the Whitsun holidays.

To ensure that rainwater is properly evacuated and to avoid flooding the tracks, the CFL are also renewing the drainage system over a length of 3.5 kilometres, as well as the track access paths reserved for the CFL staff.

With a view to optimising the coordination of work by the various public bodies involved, the closure of the Luxembourg – Kleinbettingen – Arlon line was also used by the Administration des Ponts et Chaussées to carry out work to rehabilitate the underside of the deck of bridge OA1004 at Capellen.
