// 3 July 2025

Since September 29 2024, 12 CFL Coradia railcars have gradually joined the CFL rolling stock in three-car configuration (series 2400). Together, they have covered more than 450,000 km in Luxembourg and beyond (as far as Arlon, Volmerange-les-Mines, Audun-le-Tiche). The CFL are currently preparing for their entry into service in coupled version as well as the entry into service of the 2450 series offering six-car trains in a single unit. If you haven’t yet had the chance to enjoy this experience, here are at least nine reasons why you should enjoy a journey on board the Coradia.

3 cars: the 22 Coradia 2400 series railcars each have three cars, giving a total of 334 seats per railcar, including 40 PRM seats.

4 wheelchair places are available on each 2450 series railcar (Coradia in six-car version). In total, each 2450 series railcar offers 80 PRM seats.

Comfortable: the CFL’s new trains offer a highly modern and comfortable travel experience, in both 1st and 2nd class. With the added bonus of USB-C and 230VAC sockets integrated into each seat.

Original: built by Alstom near Barcelona, the Coradia railcars used by other European rail companies have been adapted to the CFL’s needs and have a unique look.

Responsible: thanks to this new generation of trains, the CFL are continuing to reduce their electricity consumption. In fact, since 2008, the electricity used to power the Luxembourg rail network has come from 100% renewable sources.

Accessible: Coradia trains take into account many aspects of accessibility, such as barrier-free access for people with reduced mobility.

Double-decker: each Coradia motor coach has two decks to provide maximum seating capacity for CFL customers.

Intelligent: Coradia trains are equipped with the latest technology, particularly in terms of safety – the CFL’s top priority – and the information displayed on screens for customers, as well as free Wi-Fi on board. In the near future, an automatic passenger counting system will enable the configuration of trains to be optimised according to the actual occupancy rate.

Anticipating future needs: the acquisition of the 34 Coradia Stream High Capacity railcars represents a historic investment by the CFL in the mobility of tomorrow. This new rolling stock will expand and rejuvenate the CFL fleet by gradually replacing the older-generation 2000 series ‘Z2’ rolling stock.

Since their launch at the end of September 2024, the CFL's Coradia trains have been in service between Luxembourg and Diekirch; on the Luxembourg - Kleinbettingen - Arlon line since 10 February 2025; between Audun-le-Tiche and Esch/Alzette since 14 March 2025; between Kautenbach and Wiltz since 17 June 2025 and on the Noertzange - Kayl - Tétange - Rumelange line since 30 June 2025.

Delivery of all 34 Coradia Stream High Capacity trains (22 series 2400 and 12 series 2450 railcars) will be spread out until the end of 2026, offering then CFL customers with 46% more seats.
