Discover Europe with the CFL

If you’re travelling to France, the Netherlands or Germany, taking the train is a good idea. But why? Simple: the train allows you to relax and enjoy the scenery throughout the journey, before arriving at your destination refreshed and rested.
Want to get away from it all without having to spend hours in traffic jams? Take your pick from our range of getaways! Three popular destinations are linked by train from Luxembourg Station, so you can hop the next train and start your journey as soon as you’ve sat down.

Blending the historical with the futuristic – that’s what Maastricht does so well. Reachable in three and a half hours by train from Luxembourg, and with one connection via Liège-Guillemins, the Netherlands’ second city of culture is on par with neighbouring European capitals such as Brussels, Berlin or Paris. On a human scale, with its many museums and monuments, its old ramparts, its canal and its port, the capital of Limburg attracts the eye and tells its own story. International events are regularly organised in this festive student town, home to a cosmopolitan industry driven by craftsmen, artists, musicians and film-makers. Fancy a shopping spree? Maastricht is the place to be, with its handicrafts and its historic Binnenstad centre full of inspiring boutiques where creative minds meet.

Montpellier is home to the Place de la Comédie, one of Europe’s largest pedestrian areas. It’s also the combination of medieval alleyways ideal for shopping and exceptional places like the Parc du Peyrou and its traditional Sunday flea market. This university town is packed with places to meet and party. From the beach to discos and festivals, students and young professionals love to meet up on terraces not far from the historic centre, in the lively Boutonnet district. Both Gare de Luxembourg and Gare de Montpellier are directly linked by TGV.

A dynamic, trendy metropolis, Düsseldorf is appreciated for its straightforward, relaxed & cosmopolitan nature. Culture lovers will feel right at home here. The city, which is directly accessible by train from Luxembourg, is home to a host of theatres, concert halls, galleries and architectural curiosities, both historic and futuristic. While the Academy of Fine Arts has made Düsseldorf famous the world over, the city and its Königsallee are a must for any keen shopper. It’s a great place to spend a weekend shopping with friends or family, before heading to Burgplatz, one of Germany’s most beautiful squares, or to the quays to admire the Rhine or enjoy a sunset boat trip.
