Sparkling Christmas Festivities… and Accessible by Train

The countdown to the holiday season has begun. The many Christmas markets in Luxembourg and the Greater Region are already set up to create the festive atmosphere and help us wait for the big celebrations. Here is a non-exhaustive selection of seasonal markets, all easily accessible by train.

A Medieval Christmas in Dudelange

At the Forge du Sud, more than 60 stalls await visitors to celebrate Christmas in different settings: a winter market (Place Am Duerf), a traditional Christmas market (Place de l’Hôtel de Ville), and a medieval market (Place Kinnen). The oldest Christmas Market in Differdange

Now in its 48th edition, it is probably the oldest Christmas market in Diffredange, and in Luxembourg. The “Déifferdenger Chrëschtmaart” runs until December 21, 2025. Note that the food stalls open as early as lunchtime, and late-night openings are organized on Fridays and Saturdays until 10 p.m. More information: Official website of the city of Differdange

Mamer’s ‘Winters Moments’

A free ice rink, convivial evenings organised by local associations at the chalet set up at Mamer Schlass, and a Christmas market on Place de l’Indépendance are the main ingredients of Mamer’s Winter Moments. From Traditional Market to Wanterpark in the Capital

From November 21, 2025, to January 4, 2026, the Winterlights will make Luxembourg City sparkle with thousands of lights. As every year, there’s something for everyone. Six locations will host tasting chalets, markets, and other attractions: Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart at Place d’Armes, Wantermaart at Place de la Constitution, Niklosmaart at Place de Paris, Wanterpark with its ice rink at Kinnekswiss, Sapin Royal at Place Émile Hamilius (new in 2025). Noël en musique à Wiltz

Well-known for its music festival and the charming setting with its castle, Wiltz will come alive with a Christmas concert. Combining music and photography, “Winterlights in Motion” will also highlight the film “1805 – A Town’s Tale”, with its soundtrack performed by Weeltzer Musik. Save the date: December 13. And in the Greater Region?

This year, Trier’s Christmas market celebrates its 45th edition. Visitors from around the world will discover Germany’s oldest city in a magical setting until December 22, 2025. Info: Trierer Weihnachtsmarkt

In Thionville, Yutz, Terville, and Florange, the Christmas magic takes over the Pays Thionvillois during Advent weekends. The Moselle capital is no exception, as Metz opens its “Marché Merveilleux” until December 30, 2025. Infos: Marché de Noël de Metz

On the Belgian side, don’t miss the 17th Solidarity Christmas Market in Arlon on Place Léopold and in the neighboring Palais on December 5, 6, 7, and 12, 13, 14.
