The Vëlosummer 2024 is reaching out to you!

Good plan
// 31 July 2024

Are you ready to get on your bike and (re)discover Luxembourg and its natural heritage? From 27 July to 25 August 2024, the ‘Vëlosummer’ cyclo-tourism event is back for a 5th edition. In addition to the CFL, who are taking a number of measures to support travelling cyclists, 67 local authorities across the country are joining in the initiative, which includes 13 routes covering no less than 500 kilometres.

‘’The bicycle is an integral part of our strategy to cover the entire mobility chain. Systematically taking account of two-wheelers in combination with the other services we offer our customers helps to encourage more fluid and sustainable mobility,’ says Marc Wengler, CEO of the CFL. ‘So it’s only natural for the CFL to be associated with this great event, which is at the crossroads of promoting our national heritage, highlighting the advantages of the train and sharing the pleasure of cycling with friends or family.”

How can the CFL support you during the Vëlosummer?

Once again this year, the CFL are increasing the frequency on the Luxembourg – Troisvierges – Gouvy line (since April) until 29 September 2024. Every 30 minutes, a train links the capital to the north of the country on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm) on the entire northern line.

Additional spaces for bicycles in the 2000 series railcars and the double-decker ‘DoSto’ carriages are also planned.

Appropriate signage will be provided at the stations and railway stops from which all tours depart. At the same time, in-house training courses are being organised for staff to provide them with all the tools they need to welcome cycling customers. Around thirty additional CFL staff will be mobilised each weekend to assist participants boarding and disembarking at 14 stations and rail stops and on board trains with the support of security guards, particularly during the ‘weekends around the rail’

Which route(s) to choose?

Every weekend during ‘Vëlosummer’, there are several routes to choose from, departing from a station or railway stop.  These ‘weekends on the rails’ allow you to do the whole of the chosen route (loop) or part of it.

For example, on the Luxembourg – Troisvierges – Gouvy line there are :

  • the ‘VeloViaNorden’ route: from 3 to 4 August (departure from Wilwerwiltz or Clervaux or Troisvierges) and from 10 to 11 August (departure from Wilwerwiltz or Clervaux or Troisvierges or Kautenbach);
  • the Sir-Uelzechtdall tour: from 17 to 18 and from 24 to 25 August (departure from Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg);
  • the ‘Draï Dëller tour’: from 24 to 25 August (departure from Ettelbruck).

On the Luxembourg – Wasserbillig – Trier route there are :

  • the Sauer – Musel tour: from 17 to 18 August (departure from Wasserbillig).
