After a record 90% increase in subscribers in 2022, FLEX is wrapping up its first five years of service on a high note. The CFL car-sharing service is looking forward to the next five years, which will continue to be marked by growth, with an increase in the number of stations and vehicles on offer.

Multimodal mobility can also be shared. Created by the CFL Mobility subsidiary, the CFL FLEX Carsharing service has just celebrated its fifth year of operation. “We provide a flexible, on-demand mobility service that complements the public transport offer in the public space and makes it easier for the employees of our B2B subscribers to travel the first and last kilometres of their journey,” explains Pit Reiter, Managing Director of CFL Mobility.

Supported by the FLEX Carsharing App, FLEX fits in perfectly with the range of solutions deployed by the CFLs to cover all their customers’ mobility needs. In 2022, the total number of kilometres travelled were nearly two million.

A range of vehicles tailored to subscribers’ uses and needs

From 80 cars at launch at 20 stations located near CFL train stations, the FLEX catalog has been considerably expanded, from saloon cars to SUVs and compact city cars. “We have just added the new Renault Express Compact Van to meet the needs of our subscribers who transport bulky goods without a suitable vehicle,” notes Pit Reiter, Managing Director of CFL Mobility.

A sign that electric cars are responding to demand and usage, 15% of the kilometres travelled in 2022 were in this type of vehicle. The new Volkswagen ID.4 and ID BUZZ Cargo models in this category have recently joined the FLEX banner.

The number of FLEX stations now stands at 62. The ambition is to continue to expand this network. “In addition to our presence around the CFL network, we are cultivating lasting partnerships with many of our local administrative customers, who offer one or more stations within their municipality.

The new CFL infrastructure offers additional service opportunities, such as the FLEX station opening in 2023 at the brand-new P+R in Rodange. FLEX too is adapting to the country’s living and business areas, for example with the opening of three new FLEX stations in Kirchberg in 2022 and a FLEX station in the Hamilius shopping centre in 2023.

Car sharing, in tune with the times

As with private individuals, FLEX is also popular with businesses, which see car-sharing as a new advantage to offer their employees. “We develop tailor-made turnkey solutions for businesses, giving them options that are better targeted to their employees’ mobility needs,” says Pit Reiter.

Five years after the ignition key was turned, CFL Mobility now manages more than 250 car-sharing vehicles (public and for companies). This first step is not an end, as the individual vehicle is increasingly seen as a service. FLEX intends to use 2024 to further increase the number of vehicles on offer throughout the areas of the country.
