Luxembourg and the Greater Region can also be (re)discovered on two wheels! With “Bike & Rail”, the CFL have put together 20 cycling tours from station to station. Here is a selection of 5 ideas for cycling outings from the book. A change of scenery is guaranteed!

From Pétange to Pétange

The “Tour O” traces a loop from Pétange to Pétange via Dippach-Gare and Sanem.  Accessible to occasional cyclists, it follows several regional cycle paths. So it’s best to use GPS navigation. Along the way, you’ll pass charming villages such as Linger, Bettange-sur-Mess and Reckange-Sur-Mess.

  • In a nutshell:
    • Distance: 33 km
    • Estimated time: 1 hour 40 minutes
    • Difference in altitude: +411 m -411 m

Along the Sûre

The “Tour G” starts in Ettelbruck and follows the beautiful valley formed by the river Sûre. You’ll finish your tour in Wasserbillig, where the river meets the Moselle. Take time to stop off in the capital of the Mullerthal region: Echternach and its rich heritage including the Abbey Museum, the Roman Villa and the Basilica of Saint Willibrord.

  • In a nutshell:
    • Distance: 57 km
    • Estimated time: 2h50
    • Difference in altitude: +174 m -231 m

Three days from Wasserbillig to Koblenz

The “Tour R” looks like a cross-border “mini-trip” to discover the Moselle region between Luxembourg and Germany. Good planning is essential to make the most of each stage: from Wasserbillig to Bernkastel-Kues (83 km); from Bernkastel-Kues to Cochem (78 km) and from Cochem to Koblenz (55 km). A a shout-out to the “Tour G” as this last stage ends at the mouth of the Moselle with the Rhine.

  • In a nutshell:
    • Distance: 216 km
    • Estimated time: minimum 10h50 / 3 days
    • Difference in altitude: +500 m

Off to Areler Land

The “Tour P” is also one of the five tours (from 66 to 217 km) offered by “Bike & Rail” in Belgium, France and Germany. Aimed at cyclists accustomed to long distances, it will treat their legs by taking them from Kleinbettingen to the Arlon region (Areler Land in Luxembourgish) in the Belgian province of Luxembourg.

  • In a nutshell
    • Distance: 105 km
    • Estimated time: minimum 5h15
    • Difference in altitude: +1,000 m

Via the old Roman road

The last of this selection, the “Tour H” starts at Luxembourg Station and heads towards the periphery of the capital, finishing in Kleinbettingen and its mills, where you can visit the inner courtyard at the end of the route. This route uses several cycle paths, including the PC13. Dedicated to former two-time Tour de France winner Nicolas Frantz, this one passes through his home village of Mamer.

  • In a nutshell
    • Distance: 22 km
    • Estimated time: 1h10
    • Difference in altitude: +197m -166m
