In Oberkorn, the ‘Schwaarzbréck’ bridge has bid farwell

The bridge over the Luxembourg – Esch/Alzette – Rodange railway line at Oberkorn is being replaced by the Administration des ponts et chaussées, in close collaboration with the CFL.

Preparations for the replacement of the ‘Schwaarzbreck’ at Oberkorn began last autumn during a rail traffic closure during the All Saints’ Day holiday in 2024. Part of these preparation works included the installation of a temporary pedestrian footbridge.

To limit the impact of the rail closure on their customers, the CFL – together with the other public authorities involved – give priority to the weekend and school holiday periods, which are synonymous with fewer passenger numbers and a greater number of available replacement buses, to carry out such works.

On Tuesday 18 February 2025, the bridge was dismantled by cutting it down the middle.

The structure will be replaced by a bridge that is wider (12.6 m instead of 8 m) and higher (6.5 m instead of 5 m), leaving more space between the lower part of the deck and the overhead line that supplies power to the trains below.

The new bridge will be installed at the end of April and will be accessible to pedestrians from July 2025. The bridge is due to open for the start of the school year in 2025
