At first sight it seems rather obvious that the power supply of the rolling stock goes far beyond a single wire. But which elements are the catenary infrastructures composed of? These illustrations will provide answers to this question.#simplyexplained
- Track
- Suspension system of the contact wire : cantilever traction cable, bracket tube, cantilever registration tube, steady arm.
- Catenary support: Main anchor point of the contact line structure
- Insulator: Component with extremely low electrical conductivity in order to prevent electricity flowing through the securing elements on the catenary support
- Carrying cable: Parallel-running wire to secure contact wire
- Contact wire: Conductor of the contact line, which supplies the rolling stock with power via the pantograph
