In the CFL’s Hall 4, activity is becoming increasingly regular with the arrival of the Coradia trains in Luxembourg. The 34 new CFL trains will all be serviced in this brand‑new facility, designed specifically to suit their configuration.
Coradia unit 2417 — entered into service on 12 March 2025—makes its majestic entrance under the lights of the CFL’s Hall 4, at the Repairs and Maintenance Centre (Centre de Remisage et de Maintenance, CRM) in Bonnevoie. For this railcar, the moment has come for its mandatory annual overhaul check.
“A preventive maintenance check is carried out at least every three months, supplemented by inspections every four and then every six months until the annual maintenance,” explains Gilles, Head of the Multiple Units Division within the CFL’s Trains and Rolling Stock Department. “We plan around thirty hours of work for the annual overhaul. Several colleagues from our Central Workshop are involved, each bringing their expertise to, for example, check the entire air‑conditioning system.”

To use the rolling stock efficiently, and thanks to optimised scheduling, the annual overhaul can be combined with intermediate maintenance tasks. “Each railcar follows a strictly organised maintenance programme. The work ensures the safety and reliability of all technical systems,” adds Jeannot, Head of CFL’s Maintenance Centre.
Accustomed to working on other train series, the team responsible for Coradia maintenance has discovered a new generation of rolling stock—far more digitalised.
“The technical background and experience of our colleagues are undeniable assets when working on the Coradia. Our teams have also received extensive training to operate on these new trains. We also benefit from Alstom’s presence during the two‑year warranty period, allowing us to exchange knowledge on even the smallest technical details,” continues Jeannot.
Each unit comes with an individual two‑year warranty during which Alstom handles any technical failures.

Inaugurated in October 2023, the CFL’s Hall 4 features two elevated tracks to accommodate three‑car train formations (up to 82 metres long). The hall is primarily dedicated to Coradia maintenance, but its use is optimised through the servicing of other rolling stock series as well.

Precision, rigour and continuous improvement: through the expertise and passion of the CFL’s maintenance teams, the Coradia trains will be ready to deliver the best possible service to customers.
