A summer full of events to discover by train
Music, local markets, cycling, walking and funfair… there’s something for everyone this summer. Before, during or after your holidays, the CFL offer you a selection of events taking place over the coming weeks. All of them can be reached from a CFL station. The country’s oldest festival
Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, José Carreras… many great musical names have graced the stage of the Wiltz Festival since it was founded in 1953. Its 2024 programme runs until 19 July, with concerts, operettas and shows for all ages. The line-up includes flamenco star Alfonso Losa (5 July) and world-famous British singer Birdy (15 July). A Fair proud of its terroirs
An unmissable showcase for Luxembourg’s agricultural trades and terroirs, the Ettelbruck Agricultural Fair will be welcoming visitors to the “Däich” site (9.2 hectares) in Ettelbruck from 5 to 7 July 2024. More than 45,000 visitors are expected from a record 350 exhibitors. Local cuisine and products will be in the spotlight at this 41st Fair, which aims to be the biggest “Antigaspi” event (Act immediately against food waste. (antigaspi.lu)) in the country. A tempting line-up for Luxexpo Open Air
Teams from the den Atelier concert hall are back at it again with open-air concerts in the Luxexpo The Box car park. After welcoming The Smashing Pumpkins and Scorpions on 28 June and 2 July, the line-up continues with Calvin Harris (6 July), Snow Patrol (7 July) and Sam Smith (13 July). As the site can accommodate 16,000 spectators, the CFL has adapted the capacity of its trains on the evenings of the concerts. Luxexpo The Box is accessible from the Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg train stop by tram (direction Luxexpo). More info on planning your trip here: cfl.lu.
The Blues Express has been announced
41 bands, eleven stages… and free entry! The 20th edition of the “Blues Express”, to be held on 13 July in the heart of the remarkable sites of Lasauvage and Fond-De-Gras (in the municipality of Differdange), will showcase the full range of blues colours, with international artists including Manu Lanvin and the Devil Blues and Michel Jonasz.

(Re)discover Luxembourg on foot, by bike… and without a car
Summer is a great time to get active on your own, with friends or family. The season is full of events for walking and cycling enthusiasts.
From now until the beginning of September, the Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Marche Populaire is organising the “Wandersummer 2024”: a full programme of walking tours throughout the country, as well as aqua aerobics, cycling and dancing… On 8 July, 12, 19 and 26 August, walking tours will take place from station to station in collaboration with the CFL. Whether you’re cycling, walking or jogging, you’ll be able to make the most of the CR123 (Mertert – Manternach), which is closed to traffic, on Sunday 14 July 2024 for the “Autofräien Erliefnesdag” (Car-Free Discovery Day). The same concept and activities are possible between Mamer and Mersch, which will be closed to road traffic on Sunday 21 July 2024 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the “Alles Op De Vëlo” event. Find out more here: Alles op de Vëlo Mamer-Miersch | Commune de Mersch
The fifth edition of the Vëlosummer will take place from 27 July to 25 August 2024 in 67 municipalities (including two in France), offering a total of 13 cyclo-tourist routes covering more than 500 kilometres. The CFL are once again mobilising by increasing their services and the presence of their staff, especially during the “weekends around the railway”. 24,000 cyclists had taken part in the Vëlosummer by 2023, including almost 9,400 by train. The unmissable Schueberfouer
When it comes to funfairs to in the Grande Région, the Schueberfouer, is legendary. Since its origins in 1340, the fair has undoubtly become a tradition in the second half of the summer holidays. In accordance with the wishes of its founder, John the Blind, King of Bohemia, the fair begins on the eve of St Bartholomew’s Day (24 August). The 632nd Schueberfouer will therefore take place from 23 August to 11 September 2024 on the four hectares of the Champs des Glacis. More info here.
Over two million visitors are expected to attend the event. So it’s best to get there by public transport… and that means by train. All you have to do is get to the exhibition site on foot or by tram from the Central Station or the Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg stop.
Please note that from Saturday 31/08/2024 at 02:00 to Monday 16/09/2024 at 02:00, no trains will be running between Ettelbruck and Gouvy and Kautenbach and Wiltz due to work being carried out by the CFL on the railway infrastructure.
