In order to proceed to the maintenance and modernization works on the North Line (Line 10), CFL relies regularly on the help of the so-called track-renewal-train. With its weight of 650 tons and a length of 177 meters, the steel colossus Swietelsky RU 800 S definitely catches everyone’s attention along the European rail networks.

Besides its extraordinary appearance, the track-renewal-train impresses with its performance as an all-rounder: in a 10-hour-shift it can proceed to the renewal of 2 kilometers of track. #workingforyou

The different phases at a glance:

  • Spreading of the old rails
  • Removing of the old sleepers and storage inside freight wagons
  • Removing of the old ballast
  • Disposal / sifting of old ballast
  • Smoothing / preparatory works of / on the subgrade
  • Supply and compression of new ballast
  • Supplying new sleepers via portal crane
  • Installing new sleepers on subgrade / fixation
  • Installing new rails (immediately operational)
