Parking made easy – the construction of additional parking space
Leave the car behind and continue travelling to and from work by train. This is a request that more and more customers are mentioning and one that we at the CFL take seriously. By 2023 alone, the CFL have provided their customers with a whopping 2,000 additional parking spaces with the new P+R facilities in Mersch and Rodange. These barrier-free facilities make it even easier to switch from the car to the comfortable train without getting their feet wet. To enable more customers to benefit from this practical offer, the CFL are also building new car parks in the immediate vicinity of their railway stations in other parts of the country.
Parking made easy: in future also in Wecker and Colmar-Berg
New car parks are also being built at the stations in Colmar-Berg and Wecker. Work on this has already begun in Wecker and will be completed in the course of 2025. Customers will then have almost 160 parking spaces available at this stop in the east of the country – divided between car parks to the left and right of the tracks.
The work to build the new parking lot, above all the necessary earthmoving work, has recently begun. An area of just under 50 acres is being worked on the left-hand side (towards Wasserbillig). On this side, customers will later have 135 parking spaces at their disposal, as well as 10 parking spaces for motorcycles. In order to accommodate customers with bicycles, there will also be a secure bicycle parking facility (bikebox).
The existing car park on the right-hand side (towards Wasserbillig) is being extended. A further 25 parking spaces will be available here by the end of 2025, including a charging station for two electric vehicles.
Customers in Colmar-Berg will also benefit from an expansion of parking facilities in the immediate vicinity of the local railway station from the first half of 2025. Work on the expansion will begin at the end of May. A total of 2,500 square metres will later provide the necessary space for over 200 vehicles. A charging station for two electric vehicles is also planned here.
An architectural jewel takes shape
The new P+R in Troisvierges proves that modern mobility can not only be practical, but also beautiful. In the north of the country, a modern car park is being built here for almost 400 car park users who want to continue their journey by train. The unusual three-dimensional design of the exterior façade is already clearly recognisable. While the numerous struts and slats were still being installed during our last visit (read the blog article on the details of the construction method here), the wave-like design of the exterior wall is now already towering over the building site of the new multi-storey car park. The façade construction should be completed by the end of May. At the same time, work has begun on the road surface (mastic asphalt) in the P+R, which will later extend over seven half levels.
